Re: [ATM] tooling for atm
Gary
You might want to look into some used equipment if there are any
dealers in your area. Check for auctions, or schools getting rid of
equipment. A lot of schools used nice 14x40's and are usually in good
shape. Failing that, a rotary table on a milling machine can make up
for lack of size on the mill. Check into the rec.crafts.metalworking
newsgroup for more advise on machines for the amateur.
I would also stay away from the combination machines, while they can
do everything, they don't do it well and the change over time really
adds up.
I am not sure what you have available in Oz for machinery but remember
that the tooling for the mill may cost more than the mill itself. I
bought a small benchtop mill and the tooling, (vise, toolholers,
collets, indexer, powerfeed, etc were about 1.5x the cost of the mill.
This does not include any cutters. The lathe is a little cheaper to set up.
