Yes, kudos on an excellent article, Mel!
The last few days I've been sketching out the design
for a tri-enabled ultralight 12.5" f/6 and while
thinking "I've gotta go look up some pictures of Mel's
design" went down to the mailbox and there they were.

Then I skipped to the end and in the penultimate
paragraph Mel muses on using different curves on the
two working altitude arcs to raise and lower the CG at
different angles - SHAZZAM!
I was planning to put the "keel" in the front where
it'll be more like a fin or tooth - so that the mirror
box can hunker down in the center of a flex-rocker -
and here's a way to both gain better balance (moving
the effective CG forward due to the restoring force
while retaining clearance) AND raise the eyepiece at
low altitude - very cool.
About to build some models to see how/if it works.
And I like Mel's demonstration of the triangular
stability in his stance in the first picture. <g>
