Hi Jerry,
My previous experience with Tom at
www.onlinemetals.com was excellent with regard to
reasonably priced aluminum tubing.

Just last week however, I purchased some telescoping
aluminum tubes at Home Depot. $10 each. They are 8
feet when completely extended (two approx. 4 ft
sections with a plastic locking mechanism connector).
Very rigid and lightweight. Originally designed for
painting w/ a removable roller brush, methinks (the
end is capped with a threaded steel head which I will
be removing). No chance to try them out yet, but I'm
getting there. I'll post pics/website when I get a
chance.
