Jay, 
   Sounds like your doing great, my advice....
First off,  stay clear of the focualt test for a bit
yet, to early for that, and second, even when it seems
like the polishing is done remember the outer edge is
usually the slowest to polish out,look real close at
it and the whole mirror for that matter and when you
think it is done give it one more hour or so of
polishing.
Those tiny little hard to see pits that get left on
there by folks in a rush really will inhibit the
performance of that awesome piece of glass, and they
stick out like a soar thumb once the coating is on.
Im not sure what you are using for glass but I found
with my plate glass mirror if i held it up towards a
light and looked through it from behind I could easily
see the haze on the front outer edge that I had a hard
time seeing from the front.
You will know when its done good enough, have fun with
it and consider what you are achieving.
now that your done reading this... go push some glass.
