RE: RE: [ATM] gugolz pitch

I use no "mold release" and let it press fully in and then use a
kitchen sprayer, pulling the net up at 90 degrees to the lap as I
concentrate a hot water spray at the angle. Use a STEADY pull and let the
hot water heat the pitch to the point the pitch stretches and the net comes
up and out of the lap. Instead of chipping it will pull up little peaks in
the pitch. After the net is off spray to warm the whole lap, dump off the
excess water, put some rouge or whatever on it and press the mirror on it
while the pitch is still warm. Even a fine thread net will make fairly large
relief micro-facets and if it is the knotted weave net will work well.

It doesn't hurt to press the net on a new lap before channeling. The
net will allow air to escape from the center of the lap somewhat if the
pouring technique used hasn't resulted in good center contact. Some tape
around the edge of the lap will keep the pitch from pressing out the side.
The pitch will rise through the net increasing pitch thickness. This can
really be important if the lap is thin. I think it was Richard that pointed
out that the increased thickness and micro-facets will make a hard lap work
more like a softer one.

If it takes more than one piece of net to cover the lap that is ok.
Just butt them up against each other as best you can. If you want you can
line the joints up at a channel.

I've used screening from the local hardware store, just as inexpensive and
is reusable. I spray it with "mold release" (i.e. oil) press the lap
overnite. If you don't spray it with something don't press it for too long
on gugolz pitch, flakes like crazy. Makes nice microfacets if your careful.
