Re: [ATM] BVC
Hi, Jacob,
My first mirror, 8 inch f/7.8 was BVC. With no prior experience, I liked
it, but can't say how it compares to Pyrex in terms of cutting speed. CeO
was too aggressive for final figuring, but I used messy, slow red rouge and
got better than 1/20 wave parabola. (do I really believe my Foucault
readings?) Startests and planets look very good when Colorado seeing
permits it.
Some atmlist reports a few years ago complained of bubbles in the fusion
lines between the glass layers, but I believe Andre Taillon has improved his
process. My blank had no such bubbles. I am expecting delivery of a 16 inch
f/5 blank any day now.
At least one professional observatory is using BVC for 610mm NEO robotic
telescopes. They are cute little dogs, and also use Mel Bartels software
for control.

May your skies be cloudy until the telescope is finished,

Subject: [ATM] BVC
I'm sure it's been discussed before, but perhaps someone could tell me what
the current consensus on BVC mirrors from ASM Products in Quebec? I'm
thinking of either buying a prefigured blank from them or trying a standard
pyrex from elsewhere. Thanks!
