When my Gugolz 64 proved too hard in slightly cooler Pennsylvania, I too 
got a rough surface.  I was able to get the 64 to behave well enough by 
microfaceting with nylon lace purchased from a fabric store.  It was 
about the grade of lace used for wedding veils, or perhaps just a bit 
coarser.
