RE: [ATM] surface bubble - filling pits?
Hello Bill,
This bubble is about 1/100000 of the area of the mirror. It scatters
the light over a very wide angle, so the effect is negligible for
astronomical purposes. If it were a mirror in a Star Wars laser the mirror
would shatter. The only thing to be careful about is to clean the hole out
at every grit change, and before having it coated
Best wishes, Jerry

Subject: [ATM] surface bubble - filling pits?
First of all, thanks to those who provided me with grinding tips... I am now
at my desired sag. But...
Since I had to grind more glass out than expected, I exposed an air bubble
in the blank that I had counted on avoiding. Now I have an annoying pinhole
1/40" in diameter about 1/2" from the edge of my mirror (8" f/6).
Will it affect optical performance in any noticeable way? If so, can I fill
it and limit the negative effects?
Thanks for any advice
Bill
