Your ASCII art escapes me, however, my tube is built from 4 octogonal (8
sided) frames and 8 lengths of 1" electical conduit.  The angles on my
pieces had to be 22.5 degrees. Exactly 22.5 degrees to make them octagonal.
I had to by a power miter box to achieve this.  Unless I am mistaken a 45
degree cut would have to be mated with a 90 degree cut to achieve the proper
angle. Two 45 degree cuts mated together will give you a picture frame.
