[ATM] Astronomical Absurdities

Every morning I look into a shaving mirror and think of that
telescope that some one was said to have built last year at
Stellaphane using a watermelon for a tube!

I've no aspirations of doing anything with a watermellon except
perhaps eating it but this shaving mirror continues to be a
distraction. It's an 8 inch diameter and has a F/L of about 18". It's
thin and appears to lend itself to that threaded bolt technology that
one member the NJAA played with for bending the mirror.

I have no aspirations of doing anything with this if for no other
reason than the simple fact that I am over-extended now by other
substantially more important things.

Still, I'm curious. Has anyone ever attempted to make a reflector
telescope out of a shaving or make-up mirror? Even as a joke?

I know this question will generate volumes on why it would never
work. That's OK but has anyone tried?
