Re: [ATM] First Pitch Lap - any tips?
I suspect that if I did a regular square block lap with the center the
crossing of the two directions of grooves, I'd still not have the problem
because when I do it that way, it is by the Dobson pressing in of a metal
edge and that means radically different sized blocks as I march across the
lap.
The "perfect" lap really isn't from what I've seen. The guy that needs to
have all of the blocks the same size all aligned in a perfect row and column
setup is really just making trouble for himself rather than making a good
lap. Even the guy that is fussing about having a sink in the middle of each
square block really is trying really to make trouble for himself.
All the above also indicates that the guy that strokes the mirror exactly
the same on each stroke of the mirror on top of the tool will end up with
zone problems as long as he persists in making perfect strokes as he goes
along. A bit of a "sloppiness" in the technical work will keep these zone
errors down to where there is no problem.
