RE: [ATM] First Pitch Lap - any tips?
Hello all,
in the days when I made pitch laps by the Texereau method I also
used aluminium foil, here my variations.
Make a strip of wood the same width as the gap between the separators - it's
also useful when you nail down the separators, no need to measure.
Cut a strip of aluminium foil whose width is equal to that of the wooden
strip plus 3 to 4 times the depth of the separators, fold the aluminium foil
round it, press it into the gap between the separators, and fold down the
excess width of the foil
Pour the pitch, let it cool, and put it in the refrigerator - this makes the
pitch sticks more rigid, and the foil sticks to it less
Peel off the foil - you can hold it by the excess width
The other answer is to go to www.pitchlaps.com and order a mould. You'll
never go back to any other method (I get no commission for plugging this
site).
Best wishes, Jerry

Hi Jarvis, hi List (back from a long disconnection from the list),

I am astonished. I once messed with alu foil and pitch
and the foil revealed too thin so it went away painstakingly
in small pieces and I could not get off all of the alu.
Finally had to remelt the pitch, which was contaminated
with small alu pieces which fortunately fell down to the
bottom of the melting pot. Very unconvenient however.
Maybe your alu foil is more resistant (<-> a bit thicker) than
mine, which would explain you are happy with it.
I would recommend one to check this before use.
