Bob, as an experiment try exactly centering either the channels or the
facets exactly.  Polish and then look to see what kind of zones you have
produced.  You will be quite surprised. If you are really inconsistent
about mirror/tool rotations and are sloppy about maintaining stroke
lengths, the zones may not be too bad.  If you really maintain consistent
strokes and mirror/tool rotations then the zones can be horrific. 
Decentering of the facets on the lap is important (see Amatuer Telescope
Making, Book 1).
