[ATM] 1st Curve generation w/ Robo Mill
Greetings All,
Ran my first convex curve generation yesterday. While it came out 'ok', I still
have some learning to do.
First thing I had to do was re-build the tool holder, the short sighted
fabricator inadvertently built it backwards with respect to tool mounting for
curve generation. (whoops). The first few images in the webpage below were
taken with the tool rotational axis parallel to the radius being worked on.
While this orientation worked, it was painfully slow.
After modifying the tool holder to spin the tool perpendicular to the axis, and
cutting towards the center, speed improved dramatically. I still need to fine
tune the feed rates for the tool and mirror rpm. The outer 60% of the tool in
the below images were cut with a fairly high turntable speed, and a slow tool
feed rate. The result was a lot of tool chatter. After slowing the turntable
and increasing the tool feed rate, the machine became a lot more well behaved,
and produced a nicer surface with a respectable increase in speed.
Here's a link the first successful curve generation, which took about 25 minutes
to complete.
