My 2 cents worth. Invest in the Perfect Lap mold mentioned by Guy.  I have
made and remade the lap for my 16" more times than I can count.  Well worth
the money to only spend a few minutes and get a perfect, consistant lap
every time.  I haven't noticed the problem with the release agent he
mentioned however.  I just was my lap mold in turpentine about every 5th
time I use it.

BTW - My only purpose in promoting this product is to make life easier for
the ATM'er.  Particularly, the newbie. I have no other interest in it.
