[ATM] Pretoria eyepiece
Hello, Peter John, hello all.
Thank you: the link to the US patent office has revealed a very powerful
resource.
Maybe too much powerful...
I got a contact by a new friend (on the list) wich is offering me the
original reference concernig the Pretoria: the Telescope Making issue #29,
winter
1986/87, pages 4 to 9. He asked me to hold the contacts off list, but as
soon as I got the papers I'll comunicate to the list if someone else could
be interested.
I have to say that your suggestions are making me more involved in the
matter: I have found also references for the patents by Nagler and the less
known eyepieces by Kastner (at Augen Optics that very kindly have sent to me
recently some notes on his products: let me say that I have no any interest
nor particular intention to mention these names apart as for references).
Now, with such a huge resource, I have to apply myself to study the US
Patent Office on line resources on these designs. Or, better, to try
understanding them at my best.
Concerning building something in this range for my joy, I think it will be
too much cumbersome for me, for sure.
Unfortunately the Pretoria is no more built, and I've found a very few
samples for sale in the past for very high prices. Maybe I'll think about a
Augen: I'm interested in the work hold by small firms, and I wish to get one
of this "out of the market" pieces.
A last note: in my first e-mail I referred to the "Smith lens": a mistake: I
was thinking about Smith who recently published by Will-Bell: I referred of
him instead of the correct "Smyth lens". At least it should be so...
I thank you for your support. See you soon.
In the meantime,
Clear Skies
Gianluca, Rimini, Italy
