RE: ATM How to pre-polishing

Hi Bob,

Would a finer grit, say 5micros, give me any polish? I am applying the pads
to a tile tool, made of glass type tiles fixed to the dental plaster with
epoxy. I've been afraid of heating the tool in case it weakens the epoxy. Is
there any advantage of prepolishing with grit to get a faster polish?

thanks,

Alfredo

The 800 grit won't give you a polish although the finish will be finer than
the finish that you would get with the grit on a hard tool.
The pads need to be applied to a warm superclean surface to work best. As
with any tape (the pads are a basically a special tape) having the surface
dry and clean helps a lot. I warm the tool up a bit to make the adhesive
flow better and that helps. Applying it to plaster or dental stone is a
marginal thing as, unless the surface is ground clean on the dental stone,
it will tend to come off again as the cast surface is kind of dusty. I
rarely have a pad come off even if it's a single pedal of the larger pad by
this care.
