ATM First light with a legend

    ...well I got it,
It appears to be an f/6, 53" tube. The optics are dirty and in need of
alignment.Otherwise
OK for now. Some sunburst cracking of the inside paint job. The eyepieces
are all in good shape. They are University Optics,Veronascope,Brandon.
Sizes are:
ortho f=10.2mm,8mm,6.8mm,4.0mm univ/optics.The other 3 are Brandons,33mm,26.6mm
Erfile20mm,blue filter,remote cable-release,Cannon adaptor, a set of
adaptors for astro-photo
work, wrenches, cleaning brush for eyepieces.Ummm, that's about it, final
price,$400.
The mount is missing a star-drive and setting circles. Otherwise rock
steady and about
60 lbs. With OTA 80+.I got it home by dark;and after doing a very rough
optic alignment
got to it. Even though a gibbous moon hung in the pine grove, my first
light was Venus. The
ole broad looked dazzleing with that Erfile 20mm. A soupy sky and no charts
plus a rotten
memory made bino's and star-hopping necessary.I went for the double in the
dipper's handle. That 20mm split the pair very nicely. Sharp points right to
the edge and flat field to boot. The images of the moon were incredible.
That big mirror did a fine job of boring a nice hole through the back of my
head I'll tell ya!
OK so I sound like a kid after a heavy date with Brittney Spears. It has
been 18 years since
I have been near anything that big and that good.As a machinist, I was
impressed with the
scope. Smooth, rock-steady, and well-made.I'll need to tweak it up of
course. Any help
will be most welcome. How to clean up the optics. I guess vodka is passe'?
Yeah, it's worth $400...and then some!
regards, Ron
