I have built a stellar spectrograph that uses as a
slit a small pinhole (50 micrometers) on a very thin (a fraction of a mm)
stainless steel disk about an inch in diameter. For guiding the exposure I use
the reflection on this surface, but the surface is not as good as I would like.
Could someone explain me how this should be polished. I have no experience in
grinding optics, so I will need the most basic explanation. Thanks,
Antonio
