RE: ATM astronomy software?
I'll second the recommendation on Starry Night. I use it in an
Observational Astronomy class I teach and for my Project Astro 'visiting
astronomer' at a middle school. The classical constellation figures
definitely help people get an idea of the constellations. They can relate
the image to the stars much easier than unassisted 'connect-the-dots'.

: Charles,
:
: Try the demo from Sienna for Starrynight
: http://www.starrynight.com/
:
: Starrynight has great graphics and kids will enjoy it more than
: the professional programs with a lot of dots they won't understand
: yet. Let them play with it on the 'puter for a night or two and they'll
: be dying to find stuff in the night sky. When you put an arrow on
: a planet and zoom in the program provides a picture of the planet
: taken with a pro scope......same with the moon.
:
: I highly suggest it for kids, and lazy ATMs like me since it gives
: all the info on location "now" quickly.
