You just need to check things more often when doing something like chasing
wedge and also if you go too fast at one grit, consider doing the wedge
correction in the next grit.  You will be chasing the wedge even when you
get to the last grit before you start polishing and, if you are measuring
real tiny (less than a tenth of a thou)  amounts, you can even be doing
wedging even in polishing!  It sounds like you just went overboard with the
process of getting rid of wedge and got some in return.  Now that you know
how it's done, it's time to learn how to get to the point you want.  No
biggie.
