 Theory aside, eye relief is determined  by design. I worked for
Bushnell/B&L and have severe nearsightness. I worked to convince the
"powers" to increase eye relief. The best long eye relief eyepieces are
the Vixen,Pentax and Nagler 4s (expensive) :{. Plossels are also
usually fairly good. Orion catalouge gives specs. and details. In
general, you want at least 19mm from the lens with 20-21mm preferable.
If the eyepiece description does not call out the eye relief, it
probably is too short.
