 I would think that the best way would be to remove the
pitch material to a diameter slightly larger than the
hole. This way you could hot press. It would be about the same
as the edge of the mirror. When you polish, the pitch
over hangs a little. This would be the same at the
center. The vary edge isn't usually as important
because in most cases, the hole is used as part of the
mount.
