ATM Solar telescope design

Hello everyone,

I have a small problem. Here in Reading (UK), a small number of people have started a telescope making group (8) with me as instigator. Most of the group are starting to build 6", 8", 10" .... reflecting scopes, while one member wants to build a solar telescope for white light views initially but with the posibility of building on a spectroscope of some description later.
If memory serves me correctly there was (a number of years ago) an article in S&T discussing a horizontal scope on brick piers with fixed eyepiece. Employing I believe a tiltable flat with central perforation through which the returning cone of light from the primary entered to the eyepiece etc behind the flat?
Anyone who can recognise the thread of an article from the above description can you send me details so I can get a back issue. Or, if you have another idea for a solar scope I am all ears to suggestions.
ps. I also seem to remember something about the scope being part of a garden seat! or other ornament.

Anyone interested in details of the West Berkshire Telescope Makers send me an e-mail.
