FWIW it isn't necessarily my opinion that a convex asphere is exceptionally
hard, but plenty of experienced ATMs will tell you otherwise. Why do you
suppose Mike Pankratz devoted 500 hours to designing an optical system that
avoided aspheric elements altogether? I can show you optical designs that
will perform better over significantly larger fields and that take maybe
500 seconds of design work to put together. Actually building them might be
tough though...
