In the book "The Dobsonian Telescope" by David Kriege and Richard Berry, it 
is recommended to clean the Teflon and Formica bearing surfaces using a 
solvent followed by an application of silicone car wax and ArmorAll.

Does anyone know what type of solvent should be used? There are many types 
and it seems to me that some may actually be harmful to these surfaces.
