RE: ATM "J&R" crappy Celestron telescopes

You may have a locking release. Shutter releases come in two types, locking and
non-locking. The locking type automatically latches when you push the button. It is a
feature that allows you to take a time exposure with a camera that only has a "B" or Bulb
setting, but no "T" or Time setting. Such a shutter release will also have an unlatch
feature. Most I have seen have a little disk under the button. Push the disk down and
it lets the release back up.

If you have a non-locking release then Donald's post will have taken care of your problem.
