With respect to finding and funding a remote observatory, you may want
to contact some of the people either at the Fremont Peak observatory
association, or through the San Jose Astro Assn,

I joined SJAA last year, but from what I have heard, a bunch of local
SF bay area clubs got together and helped with the formation of
FPOA, and the observatory in a state park about 90 minutes from
San Jose.  I gather that SJAA contributed a chunk of money for the
observatory, which boasts a freshly restored (damaged in a severe
el Nino storm) 30".

As it turns out, from what I know, SJAA donated the majority of the
money, but it was the members of FPOA who did the grut work of
building the observatory.  Membership in FPOA is separate from SJAA,
but quite reasonable.  Now that my asthma is starting to act
cooperative, I hope to get my tail down there some dark night.....
