ATM Band Rejection Mirrors




I was looking at some mirrors and other products designed for use with laser
systems.  These are generally very high precision mirrors of 1/10 to 1/40 wave
in visual light (.5 to 2" diameter).  I was wondering if anyone has considered
using some of the products from this technology for building Newts or SC
scopes?  Some of these mirrors have multi-layered electron beam deposited
dielectric mirrors optimized for 45 degree angle of incidence and are up to
99.5% reflective!  Amazing I think.... don't you?  Some of these products
could be ordered with band rejection in the Na/Hg area of the spectrum in
order to dimish the effects of "light pollution."  Actually allowing a
transmittance of up to 70% (70% of the Na/Hg light doesn't reflect from the
mirror).  Isn't this is like having a light pollution filter (like that sold
by Lumicon/Orion) however no futher reduction in light from the "extra" piece
of glass.  These mirrors can also come with convex shapes for potential use in
a SC.  What do you think?
