ATM H-Alpha filter (Slightly OT) Help !

All,

our local Astronomy Club has an H-Alpha filter which is
used extensively for Sun observations. I don't know if someone
left it in the observatory one winter night but the inside of the
filter has clouded up some. Not only that but it now gets quite hot
(60C) when used although the operating temperature is normlly
around 40C. Can anyone out there hazard a guess as to what
may have happened to this expensive piece of equipment ??
(Other details : its a DayStar(TM) H-Alpha Filter,
Model=ATM, CW=6562.8A, Power=30W/115V,
HW=0.70A,Manufacturer(?) Del N. Woods - Pomona,Cal.)

Many Thanks,
