In addition to the Astrosystems book (a pretty good book) that someone
else mentioned there is also "The Modern Dobsonian" by Tom Clark (of
Tectron). This book takes you through the back of the envelope
sketches and calculations to design a telescope similar to the Tectron
series of nested boxes telescopes (the secondary cage fits in the
mirror box, and the mirror box fits in the rocker assembly). To be
airline portable you would probably want to build a separate storage
box for the mirror to bring as carry on luggage.

There is also "A scope like Alice" which I believe appears in the back
of "Making and Enjoying Telescopes" (my copy is at home, so the title
is approximate), and I think is also described one of the ATM pages
(perhaps the one run by Mel Bartels?). This is a two tube truss
design with the focuser and secondary mounted on a flat board that
fits within the mirror box.
