6 sided truss works find.  I built one once.  Drawbacks include heavier
tubing than needed for a 8 truss, and the circle that the 6 sided truss
is drawn on must be bigger otherwise the light path is obstructed.  By
the way, the 6 sided truss can also be a 8 sided truss with the bottom 2
trusses removed.
