Hi John,
One of our list members is a strong advocate for the use of Plastic Air Duct 
(PAD) tubing.  Eric Allen, of Edmond Oklahoma, has built several scopes using 
this material with great success.   I, personally, had the good fortune to see 
some of Eric's scopes and I can also say that this tubing is a great material.  
It is a lightweight, thin walled, inexpensive PVC style plastic pipe that comes 
in different diameters.  In my opinion, a PAD tube would be lighter than 
Sonotube and just as strong.  Worth a serious look.
