Tom, on using the Weller soldering gun with a coper wire replacement tip,
I start at the bottom and shallow depth and slowly move towards the top
to form a channel for the pitch to run out in. I continually widen the
channel to about 1/4-inch. I must be careful when channeling 90 degrees
to the first cutts as sometimes the pitch will damn and cause higher ridges.
There has been several interesting suggestions on this thread.
Alexander's idea of random scratches sounds some what like micro facets,
doesn't it? Hummmm? The next time I cut groves I will try using the
masking tape to reduce (remove) the ridges.
