Kilian's bearings

The bearings I got were from a machinery surplus shop. Look under surplus or machine in the yellow pages. Also maybe Metal. We have about six places in the Minneapolis/StPaul area.

The bearings I am using are made by Fafnir. They say RAK 1-5/8" New Britain, Conn on them.

I think that they are called spherical roller bearings. The bearing casing is ground so that you can bolt it down, and then move tha shaft around a few degrees in any direction to get the shaft to line up with another bearing. Also it is impossible to transmit any torque from the shaft to the mount through the bearing, si you don't get any twisting motions.

They cost about $18.00 each and they had crateloads of them in boxes.

If you have a specific bearing need, send me the specifications, and I'll go down and price them for you. If you need some, I'll ship them to you.

These bearings come in two mounting flavors. One has four bolt holes, and you would cut a hole in a plate, and mount the bearing so that the shaft passes through the plate. The other type has two bolt holes, and you bolt the bearing to a plate and the shaft is parallel to the plate.

I know that's tough to imagine, and give me an Email if it didn't make sense.

Oh, they do have two 8 Inch diameter bearings of this type for $700.00 Each. Just the thing to mount your Buick to if you want to have a Buick Barbequeue.
