Lawrence,  I totally agree with you .  Plastic doesn't have enough scratch resistance for me either.  My other hobby is woodworking.  I would rinse my glasses off in a bucket of water to get the fine wood dust off, and they still scratched.

One problem I did have with glass was the thickness required.  I don't like these tiny, trendy,  small lens eyeglasses that are in vogue now.  I want a reasonable field of view.  With the bigger lenses (which I need for my big head anyway!) the edges were over 1/4 inch thick......and that was after they beveled them.  And they are heavy; I had great neck muscles!!!!!

I figured if my main source of glass (Coke bottles) could go to plastic, so could I.
