Actually, the polycarbonate lens would more likely play the "flint" role,
but that's not saying a Steinheil configuration is not to be considered.

According to the Handbook of Optics, there is a problem with working in
plastic.  Paraphrasing, the surface never seems to heal:

   "Closer examination [of the surface], however, reveals surface
    microstructure which probably does not fall within the standards
    normally associated with precision optics."
