Try a one inch oversized lap and see if turned edge magically disappears.

I need to try your method of using an oversized lap at some point.
Generally, I make mine just a tad undersized. I generally get turned edge
and have to put in a lot of work to reduce it to the bare minimum, using
very short strokes and a hard lap.
