The same way I do any lap.  I keep the mirror in constant motion, so it's
irrelevant if the lap is larger than the mirror diameter, because some
portion of the mirror overhangs and some portion of the tool is exposed.

I never cold press - it's a waste of time.  For that matter, I don't hot
press either - that's not effective.   Warm the pitch's surface only to the
extent that a few strokes of the mirror with thick polishing agent will
bring the lap back into contact after last night's figuring session.  Then
if necessary 'freeze' the lap surface by a dunk in cold water for a few
moments.

I never channel, I always micro-facet, and let the lap fill in.  It's OK if
the lap's channels/facets close-up.   The pitch is still flowing.  You can
get some wonderfully smooth beautiful looking surfaces this way.
