This could make sense even with only one linear polarizer. I think
the sky has some polarization to it that is dependent on the
position of the Sun.

>From telescope using perspective, there are quasars and Seyfert
galaxies that should be polarized. I would guess that relative
other sky objects, like common stars, the signal strength from
these objects should depend on polarizer orientation (something
I have been wanting to tinker with).
