Geez, the only magic is that windshields are at a large angle
from the vertical so thatt it is a lot easier to get the
necessary high angle off of them to get well polarized light.
Not transmitted but rather reflected off of the outside surface.
Multiple layers of glass won't do anything for you either.  If
you have a large window in the house that is at just the right
angle to the sun as it rises or sets (the ability to get the
reflection of the sun is the important thing) then that will also
work although the angle of polarization will be  ninety7 degrees
from a windshield.  I'll also note that many also call the rear
glass on a car a rear windshield for some strange reason.  Aso,
others have been heard to call the rear window the rear light or
something like that.
