actually, the "splaying" could be due to the cut on the plywood disk not being
perfectly square... if you turn the plywood disk over do the cuts still splay
outward or do they now go inward?
another possibility, which i seem to recall from other discussions, is that with
stiffer metal, it won't splay as much... this also plays with the number of
notches and their positioning... if you only have two or three notches, you
won't splay as much as if you have 30 or 40... the more notches, the stiffer the
metal needs to be to cut down on the splaying...
of course, i could be completely wrong on this, too ;)
