Yes! Polarized sunglasses and a TFT screen do work. I tested this method with a piece of clear plastic that has colored stress bands visible when using my polarizing sheets and a bright light. I see the exact same pattern when I lay the plastic on my flat laptop screen and view it through polarized sunglasses. You may have to turn the laptop (or your head :-) ) to get the full effect...
