[ATM] Cutting Plate Glass & looking for strain..

Guy, and all on the list,..... Most plate glass of a thickness more than 1/2" is not tempered.. Not because it can't be,.. just because the cost is very expensive. Don't get me wrong there are always exceptions to this rule, and sometimes strain rear's it's ugly head. If you are worried about strain in the glass, take (or buy) some "polarized" sunglasses... Then buy another cheaper pair, or look for some in your old sets or at "Good will", you will know if they are polarized by turning the lenses in rotation to get a "black out" You will know this when you see it. Wear the polarized glasses, and place the other polarized lens behind the glass you are inspecting, now move it across the back side of the glass and twist until you almost get to black...now move the back lens around and look for "dark matter" or "dark area's" If you see "shadows" the glass has too much strain to grind or work with.. A good test is one of the side windows on your auto.. Most of these are "tempered" glass, doing the test on this will give you a feel of what tempered glass looks like polarized. Most windshields are layered plate nowdays... I am very interested in where you found 1 inch thich plate glass?? I have been making circles out of 3/4" plate for 3 years.. I do have a system...... Russ Jocoy...I am willing to reveal my cutting process, and other's if you can tell me where you are getting 1" thick plate glass. (remember if you can cut the glass with a diamond blade, and it does'nt explode into a billion piece's, most likely it is not tempered)
