A minor addendum. Many such products are so-called circular
polarized, which does not mean the photons are cruising in
circles, but instead, a neutralization filter is added with
the idea that the product, such as sunglasses, reduces the
intensity of the light overall. Most polarizing filters for
cameras are also of this type.
