a cheap way to do a stresstest is using a normal TFT-screen.
Such a screen, as used in Personal computers and Notebooks, radiates
polarized light just as well as a professional expensive
Polarizer-setup. This I learned at the public observatory in Almere
(Netherlands).  
Looking trough the glass to the TFT-screen (switched on) will
immediately show stress in the glass.
