My point was to check with the coater. Spectrum has some good advice.  
3/4 inch thick  plywood and 2X4s might not be necessary with  modest 
sized optics.  Did Steve make an adequate/great shipping unit to send 
your optic to the coater that was reusable?  Did they then dispose of of 
a great container and ship it to you in another substandard, inadequate  
box, or was it the same box they received it in? Usually ( in my 
experience) the coating folks return the product in the box it was 
shipped in. YMMV. I'd guess Mike Lockwood might chime in.
