Some years ago, I tried oil flat autocollimation with an 8 in. mirror. This 
was before the advent of very bright LEDs and I was trying to use an 
incandescent light source. The heat from the light caused so much turbulent 
inference that the setup was useless. Someday I may try again with a good 
LED.
