I've placed small, obviously amateur need orders with Newport and Salem. 
No problems with either. Newport's catalog did take some time to arrive 
and Salem's shipping is on the high side, but fast.

The Willman-Bell and GotGrit folks seem very nice - I've met both and 
wouldn't hesitate to order from either.

I've often read the recommendation to "search the archives" with basic 
questions. That's good enough advice, but if you don't already know what 
you're doing it's hard to figure out how advice given for a slightly 
different set of circumstances applies to what you're trying to 
understand. And often enough the threads go off on tangents without 
subject line changes so you may have to read a lot just to realize the 
answer's not there. ATMing can be a confusing and complex endeavor for 
some of us - please be patient if we ask already answered questions!
