Get Will_Bell's genuine burgundy pitch, heat as much needed for the lap,
and add some turpentine to get the softness you want. The old pros do the
thumbnail test - cool a spoonful, push your thumbnail (1 lb force) against
the cooled pitch, and time how long it takes to make a 1/4" dent (width
(?)). As I recall they say 10 s is the standard softness. It's been my
experience that a little turpentine changes the softness quite a bit.
